Hello there people, just sold my old cruiser, and i've been testing a few 2000-2003 model hilux's, was looking for a turbo diesel but can't seem to find any. Found a V6 petrol that seem to be pretty good, but don't know anyone with one i can look at or drive. Can any one on hear tell me if this V6 is any good in the reliability dept, and if the i.f.s is any good,can i put a 2" lift in it without any problems. any advice will be apreciated. Andrew

mate, cant comment on the v6 as i have a 3.0 diesel but in terms of the ifs, its great for around town, beach and general dirt roads etc. mainly use mine for dirt roads and beach work. on the beach i prefer my slug diesel to my old mans petrol auto 100 series landcrusier. get stuck a whole lot less. i dont do any really hardcore driving and thus it suits me well. really depends on what u want to do with it. have heard that the v6 can chew the juice though.

yeah i was wantin a v6 but i got the turbo diesel . reason being is the fuel the v6 was at around 360km to a tank and the diesel is about 500 so its a big difference . but the v6 has alot more power but its up to you wether its worth the money . i am glad i got the diesel but hey everyone is diffenent you cant go wrong with a hilux anyway so your on a good start

I have a 3.0 turbo diesel love it to bits but am getting torn apart by think ing if i should get rid of it or not for something bigger.

I have a 2004 V6 Automatic....they drink and drink and drink. Did i mention drink?

Seriously but, I get about 17-20L/100k's around town, and will get about 13.5L/100k's out on open road, as long as their isn't heaps of BFO hills or a strong head wind. Having said that, it has every ARB bolt on known to man, full bar work, winch, 115L long range tank, 60L water tank etc etc so a fair bit of added weight there, and running 31" MT/R's.

All in all I wouldn't trade it for a N/A diesel, but would for a turbo diesel I reckon. Driving around the burbs is just that bit easier and nicer with petrol pickup and auto tranny.

Really happy with my Lux. Fuel is so so , about 520kms per 80litres and I run 35's.
It didn't have any low down power and had to rev the ring out of it so I put a super charger on it. Better on fuel and heaps of power. The engines are fairly bulletproof. The ifs should be alright if you don't get too twisted up. I kept breaking C.V.s so in went the solid front with coilovers.

Where you source your supercharger from and may i ask how much?

Im happy with my 03 V6 dual Cab Luxi. I dont know where some of you are getting your fuel figures from, must be driving it like you stole it all the time!

I have a 2" suspension lift and new 265/75x16 MTR's. My speedo I have also recalibrated to read correctly and running premium unleaded I regularly get 12.5-13.0 litres per 100km.

Mines a 5 speed manual also.

best ever has been 12.0 per 100km even. But I drive my Hilux pretty timidly from day to day. Dont see the point in reven her out. I save that for the dirty weekends.

They are bulletproof motors and from what Ive read it is basically a 1UZ without 2 cylinders. They lack abit down low and off takeoff with bigger tyres but once moving they are fine.

I get 17ltrs per 100kms around town in my V6 manual with 35" tyres. Toyota's figures state 15 so I thought 17 with 35s was good. The worst I ever got was 25 towing a trailer loaded at 140kph.

I average 16.3 lts over 30,000kms last year, mostly city driving. Can fault the engine, always runs sweetly. Bit thirsty on the sand, and when towing and also thirsty with air con on.

Apart from that, no dramas with the vehicle. Mines a 03 extra cab with 31s for daily driver, with ARB front and rear bars, and usually carry about 150kgs in the tray to make it ride better.

If you want plenty of power go for the V6, if u want plenty of fuel economy, go the TD.
