Best way to lift a body

Post by dawg runner »

Hi,

Doing a body swap on my 85 runner.

Was not really concerned when i was pulling the old body off as it was getting turfed but i now have the donor vehicle and it still has all the interior and panels on it and am concerned with the extra weight. When i pulled the old one off i just used an engine crane on the front cross member on the body and got a couple of mates to lift the ass end and rolled the chassis out. Dont want to do this with the new one cause it is abit heavier.

Will go to kennards lift and shift and get something sufficient to lift the whole thing but where should i lift from? Should i use a splitter so the straps dont pull in on the body when i lift or will it be alright? Was thinking a plank of wood under each wheel arch then use some sort of splitter above the roof then lift from there or what?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

Know anyone with a winch, and a block and tackle pluss some lifting straps too. i wouldnt go through the hassle of removing the dash though. Anything but that!

If the body is movable, eg on another rolling chassis. Take it and your chassis that you are putting it on to a mechanic shop and lift it up with there hoist then roll your chassis under it.
