my hilux is dead

Post by nate_lux »

hey guys
on the way to work this morning my oil light came on, flased for a second then went away, i was like ok work is less than 5 minutes away ill put some in when i get there.. then just out side work it started to make this loud tapping noise like a vw comby van i was like oh shit, put oil in it at work i thought it would be ok.. then coming home the noise got worse so i pulled into a servo and thats where she died:cry:

its a 91 diesel with 315 on the clock.
what could this mean? siezed engine? timing completly out? any replies would help alot

yep i would agree my land cruiser (80 series ) done the exact same thing i thought it was he tapets so i put more oil in and it did nothin the big end bearings were stuffedmine done 440 000 and the fact that yours has done 315 then yeah definitell the big ends.

it just stopped running and now its seized sorta. anyway its cheaper to fit a second hand engine than fixin it . hope it helps

you might have been lucky and just done a bigend bearing and not damaged the crank... not much of a job to pull the sump and check. hope so for your sake

this sounds familiar i spun 2 balance shaft bearings. Its cheaper to buy a second hand block and rebuild it (and better off) than stripping your existing block and sleaving it to put new bearings in
