Just wondering are the vitara and the Baleno Fuel injected 1.6 motors the same
or if someone could give me the first parts of a vitara 1.6 engine number to try and verify i.e g16b and whatever other letters numbers i would need to tell?

Also would the back of the motor be the same as in Baleno being front wheel drive could my sierra g/box mate to it.

im in the middle of puttin the baleno 1.6 in my zook.....the blocks are the same, the heads are slightly different.the thermostat housing and water outlet come out of the back of the head on the baleno engine which requires some fab to make it work.also will need to do some work to the water pipe that goes into the water pump.its all pretty straight forward but.i could go on but you know!!!blah blah blah......

I have done this swapp already. its a top little motor. motor will fit up to a 1.3 gearbox using a vitara efi confersion plate. the rest of the fab work is pretty simple

this will depend on weather you get a later motor or not.

some of the later baleno's have a crank sensor. this will give you sump issues when it comes to changing the sump.

So you cant get a Baleno and put it in as easy as you can a Vit motor?

I thought the coil pack Bal motor was a easy swap??

Have to change and fab some gear huh? The head hose to the Radiator, etc?

im using the coil pack motor, yeah there could be some issues with sump, but mine is ok (its sprung over) ill still make some longer bump stops. the conversion isnt all that difficult in my opinion....

the sump on mine got fabed up using the 1.3 one as a base, and cut the front out welded in the baleno one, where the crank case sensor is, a little work. but worked out beautifully on mine. also just cut and shut the oil pickups

I've installed a 2001 Baleno coil pack motor in a mates coily. Its a really nice little motor.
It bolts to the gearbox and engine mounts with an adaptor kit just like a Vitara motor.
As mentioned the water outlet comes out the back of the head, so you have to make up a new water outlet pipe. This took a bit of shagging round to stop it getting air-locks in the head / water pipe.
From memory I think we had to change the water pump tube too as they are different.

The sump has a crank sensor hole in the front, so we cut & welded the front of the Baleno sump onto a 1300 one. Found out later that some of the later Vitaras have this sensor hole in the front (but no sensor) so if you've got lots of lift you can use on of those sumps.
The dipstick is set up for FWD configuration, so it doesn't read correctly when mounted in RWD configuration and needs to be changed.

The intake manifold is nice and low in the Baleno motor, so it all fits under the bonnet with no body lift or trimming (at least it does on a coily).

One thing we haven't got going is the revcounter - anyone got any tips on hooking this up?

Anyone got any Pics of there Baleno motor in the Sierra?

Id would be great to see the rear of the motor and how youve fabed the pipes/housing

Also anything on the Sump would be great.

Im guessing they would be very simlar to the Vit 1.6 to wire in too?

the baleno engine is basically the same as a vit engine, cos i got one in my vit.

i needed to mod the sump pan and move the oil pick up pipe.
thats all.
