Not sure if thats what they are called but they are missing off the diff i bought from the wrecker on passenger side nuckle.
Can i just put a seal and bearing kit in it and put it back togehter without this shim or will this create more problems.
I am puttin 85 hilux diffs under my suzuki.
Cheers

Without them your axel/seal probably won't line up properly, probably along with other problems. It's not a simple matter of getting the right shims and whacking them in either, i don't believe.
Getting the shims won't be a problem, but i think specialist tools are required to shim the swivel housing properly...

I thought there was also some sort of alignment tool to set the vertical position of the housing?

I CBF getting my manual out. Will probably say "Use SST #### to set shims, then use SST #### to measure preload"
Edit: looked at my manual, way too involved to type up tonight - theres mathematical formulae and everything. Maybe someone has a scan?

im sure its not as complected as they say, ive done many and never worried about crap like that...
I just put the same shims in the top as the bottom...
You cant really over Preload the bearing by removing a 1/2 thou shim..

Well this is what i was going to do but just wanted to see what affects it may have in the long run.
Would like to do it properly with correct tool but if i cant get a hold of one ill just have to slap it together and hope.

Uhh? I always thought to shim, you add shims until the play is gone, but so its not tight...
I've always done it that way? Even on trucks?

You dont need special tools or any "SST" crap. Just play around with shim adjustment until there is a little bit of drag in the bearings when you swing the knuckle from side to side.
Also remember to keep the shim thickness the same for top and bottom, this will align the shaft with the seal, unless your housing is bent.

Cheers Gribs but i got a price from the local 4wd shop to shim the diff and they quoted me $70 so that aint too bad in my opinion.
