Hey fellas, i got an 85 4runner with a 327 Chev, The power is awsome but damn the fuel bill. What sort of milage are people getting from there chev powered fourbys?
I was lucky to get around 200k's to a 55l tank.
My Engine specs are:
327 Chev
Edelbrock Performer intake
600cfm holley (with vacum secondarys)
Mallory machenical duel point dizzy (soon to be HEI)
stock 4runner 5 speed and diff
31" tyres
Also does any change the gearing with there v8's cause it sits on 3000rpm doing around 100k's.

Had a 327 in my 40. LPG is the way! Good on angles, cheap to buy and as long as you dont drive flat to the board everywhere, economy difference is negligible.
Had dual fuel and couldnt really notice a huge power increase on petrol. I only really used it to keep the gaskets lubed, the rest of the time I ran LPG only.

i know diesels get more k's to a tank but heres my 2 bobs worth. ive got an 87 4runner aftermarket ARB turbo and long range 50L tank plus standard 65L Tank and run moreys thru my diesel and get easy 1200 k's between fills of botth tanks. On average itll cost me $120 to fill up... oh and i sit on 3000rpm while doing 100 k's an hour too
1987 Tojo 4runner nothing too exciting
I can handle the slight drop in economy for the power and fun factortojo_runner wrote:i know diesels get more k's to a tank but heres my 2 bobs worth. ive got an 87 4runner aftermarket ARB turbo and long range 50L tank plus standard 65L Tank and run moreys thru my diesel and get easy 1200 k's between fills of botth tanks. You need to get your engine down to about 1800 rpm at 100 kmhMightypns wrote:Hey fellas, i got an 85 4runner with a 327 Chev, The power is awsome but damn the fuel bill. What sort of milage are people getting from there chev powered fourbys?

I modified my R150 overdrive from 17% OD to 31% OD running 4.875 diffs and 33x12.5 tyres tacho reads 2100 rpm at 110 kmh This is fitted up behind a Commodore V6 I have pulled 599 km out of a 63 litre tank

I recently drove my 60 series from Canberra to Sydney and did 348km to approximately $75 which is approximately 62L a factor of 178 mils per kilometer. I have a Ford Cleveland 302.
Mightypns = 275 ml/km
Justinshere mates 60 = 333 ml/km
known 2 = 350 ml/km
Booflux (efi 8) = 110 ml/km
tojo_runner (diesel) = 95 ml/km
toyrex (V6) = 102 ml/km
So, by the looks of it, you all either have too much right foot too quickly on the highway and streets or the Ford engine is getting much better economy for pretty much the same power (give or take a little).
Mine is running rough too!

Around town driving, with a fair amount of rice racing I used to get a bit over 300km from 60L out of my 1UZ 4Runner on 35's. On the freeway I've had it down around 12L/100km.
Bit a chalk and cheeze comparison though. An oldschool carbed bent 8 vs a quad cam silky EFI 8...
