factory gq 4.2 turbo diesel???!!! (bet involved)

Post by simcoe »

ok the old man has bet me and one of his mates that nissan brought out a factory 4.2 turbo diesel in gq form in australia.. now i have never seen or heard of one for that matter that ever existed!! The old man swears that he was almost going to buy one back in 91-92 odd..im pretty sure he's confused with the 2.8..

there's beer involved (lol)so i'd like to be right and i know that someone on here can verify the correct answer

quick answer anyone please

cheers

I'd say 100% no not in Australia if it wasn't for the fact that I vaugely remember something about a VERY limited number of ute called "county pack" or some shit like that which were a factory 4.2 turbo - had weird graphics on em to I think.

they did bring out a factory turbo 4.2 out in GQ. in those days they would put anything to tegether as a pack, example you could buy a pov pack wagon with ti trim or a ti with wash out floor or paint it any colour pink if you wanted plus 100 more options. back then i think they used atx kits.....

my understandins is that the town and country pack and any gq 4.2 with a turbo fitted was a dealer option. which for the sake of bears would mean that nissan never actually released a 4.2 turbo diesel in australia. I would argue that some smart dealers and maybe nissan cottoned on to the demand for a 4.2 td and fitted an after market kit and agreed to cover them under factory warranty.

I know in 1993 the (Y60) Safari built from August on came out with a TD4.2T. The "Nissan" turbo was available in the on their Homy van (E24) as of Oct of 1988, so no reason why Nissan would not offer a turbo as an option on their GQ ealier if they saw a market.

They did in Japan but these were never sold new in Australia.
