The old man swears that he was almost going to buy one back in 91-92 odd..im pretty sure he's confused with the 2.8..

there's beer involved (lol)so i'd like to be right and i know that someone on here can verify the correct answer

I'd say 100% no not in Australia if it wasn't for the fact that I vaugely remember something about a VERY limited number of ute called "county pack" or some shit like that which were a factory 4.2 turbo - had weird graphics on em to I think.

You have just shouted your old man some beers

Posts number 8 and 13 in this thread (and Oldmav knows his shit so I guess they did - plus him and the old boy bought one each new)

they did bring out a factory turbo 4.2 out in GQ. in those days they would put anything to tegether as a pack, example you could buy a pov pack wagon with ti trim or a ti with wash out floor or paint it any colour pink if you wanted plus 100 more options. back then i think they used atx kits.....

mine had a turbo fitted by redcliffe nissan in 88.
it is an AIT turbo kit.
they arent technically produced by nissan however they are dealer fitted

my understandins is that the town and country pack and any gq 4.2 with a turbo fitted was a dealer option. which for the sake of bears would mean that nissan never actually released a 4.2 turbo diesel in australia. I would argue that some smart dealers and maybe nissan cottoned on to the demand for a 4.2 td and fitted an after market kit and agreed to cover them under factory warranty.

I know in 1993 the (Y60) Safari built from August on came out with a TD4.2T. The "Nissan" turbo was available in the on their Homy van (E24) as of Oct of 1988, so no reason why Nissan would not offer a turbo as an option on their GQ ealier if they saw a market.

They did in Japan but these were never sold new in Australia.

The wagon i have at the moment has a ait complete kit on it with the alloy air box and external gate etc etc, it was fitted the same mounth the car got regoed in qld, was also warranted threw redcliffe nissan so i would say it was an option at time of sale to have fitted
