Cruise Control

Post by Lawrence »

There is a little knob on the right hand side of the steering wheel in my Gq. I think its suppose to be cruise control. I also had it in the previous MK that i had. How practical is this knob and whats the best way to operate it?

It is actualy a Hand trottle or Idle up, used for keeping the Idle up for slow speed rough terrain, the older MQ/MK had full travel on the accelerator peddel, the GQ is limmited to about 1600rpm with a crimped on ring. I dont remember if the GU has one, but I would assume it did.

On a petrol GQ its good for 100km/h on a desiel GQ its good for about 80-85km/h.
But its not really a good thing to use on road as a cruise control. As it dosent disconnect when the breaks are hit.

I thought it would have been for a pto whinch?
GU has a "heat" switch in a similar spot, boost engine revs to around 1200rpm, I read somewhere it was for cold starts in adverse weather conditions. But it is only an electrical toggle switch.

Could be used for that. But its on every Diesel GQ and a similar thing on the petrols. Its just a hand throttle. Used for increseing idle speed.
With my PTO if I pulled the lever out all the way and let it winch the PTO shaft would vibrate to death.

Yeah I had a 89 4.2 Petrol years ago and it had the hand throttle on it.

As well as Cruise Control (after market).
