G'day all i'm after some help regarding a oil leak in my H55F gearbox in my FJ73, the picture shows where it is leaking, up though where the shifter goes into the gearbox. Probably explains the hard shifting of my gearbox since the oil is escaping! Looking in my manual it did not show any oil seals or anything, only a ball loaded with a spring and a collar. How do I stop this leak? and is there some kind of seal somewhere and also the ball on the end of the shifter does that wear ? thinking if I can I will replace it to tighten up the shifter abit

cheers

ewww.. that looks nastey!

there is a bush that goes on the end of the shifter thats all i can help with.. when i swapped gearsticks over, one stayed in the box and the other came out with the gearstick..

i am told this is what needs replacing when the changes get sloppy.

hope this helps.

I'd be checking the breather on the box as well to see if it's blocked and causing it to blow oil out there,.....

The gear stick mount is the breather on the h55f. It does not have a seperate breather. There is only a ball end type seal at the top for the gear lever.
You may have overfull oil in the gearbox due oil transfering from transfer case into gearbox. This is very common in the h55f. Cause is the transfer case/ gearbox seal is shot & then pressure build up in transfer case (when it gets hot) pumps oil into gearbox.
