I have the chev idling and within about a minute the extractors are glowing red. Why would this be happening? or is it normal, it doesnt look normal.

or the better thing to do would be to use a timing lightbigcam wrote:i think you mean to retarded, making the bang too late and pushing unburnt or burning gas out into the extractors. check it, advance it til it pings and back it off 5 or so.

Why? some motors are happy with more static/advance than others, the only way to find out how far you can go is to find detonation point....oozuk wrote:or the better thing to do would be to use a timing lightbigcam wrote:i think you mean to retarded, making the bang too late and pushing unburnt or burning gas out into the extractors. check it, advance it til it pings and back it off 5 or so.

x2 maybe just tape em up with some heat tape, should be good fore a few extra hp as wellScrewy_ScrewBall wrote:alot of chevs ive seen have done this, but not that quick, usually after u have driven the hell out of it for 20mins
Why not just tune it correctlypongo wrote:x2 maybe just tape em up with some heat tape, should be good fore a few extra hp as wellScrewy_ScrewBall wrote:alot of chevs ive seen have done this, but not that quick, usually after u have driven the hell out of it for 20mins
I've heard this before - what's the theory behind the claim?pongo wrote: x2 maybe just tape em up with some heat tape, should be good fore a few extra hp as well
i think it helps with gas flow movement as the pipes are colder. also keeps heat away from the heads which means cooler burn and ability to run more timing advance if neededdogbreath_48 wrote:I've heard this before - what's the theory behind the claim?pongo wrote: x2 maybe just tape em up with some heat tape, should be good fore a few extra hp as well
