Mates TB42 swallowed a load of water, and bent rods, and fukt block..
Anyone know good places in Melb for proper reco engines?? Lookin for exchange, or outright but not used - only recon.. he needs it going asap, no time to rebuild it himself, or do engine swap or etc...
$1000 exchange from wreckers seems steep to me...

Bruce, tell your mate to get it done at an engine reconditioner/remanufacturer. If he takes it to a mechanic, the mechanic is only going to farm the work out anyway and you end up paying a middleman.
We are friends with Lou at Dandy Engines in Concorde Crescent just around the corner from work, if my engine needed work I wouldn't hesitate to let his guys look after it.
Try to find an engine reconditioner that can do all the work without having to send anything away. Lou's place does everything except for cams and his rational is that cams are very specialised so it's better to leave them to the experts. He is currently building an engine dyno room as he's sick of taking a couple of engines a week up to be dyno'd elsewhere.
Regards Andrew.
