Maxxis Bighorns - fair price??

Post by plasnart »

Hi all,

I'm thinking seriously about purchasing a set of Maxxis Bighorns (285/75/16) and am now getting quotes from tyre outlets. The prices range from about $295 to $350 per tyre. From previous posts, it seems there are guys out there buying these tyres for mid-$200's. Is that price still current or have these tyres gone up in price recently?

Do you reckon I should buy at this price? Do you think I might get a better deal at the Melbourne 4x4 show in October?

Thanks for any advice.

You will find that most of the mid 200's will be for a 15 inch rim

Where are you located sack76? I've been getting prices from Geelong and Melbourne and the best I've had to date is $289 fitted and balanced. Would love to get them for $250.

yeh it just depends on how good the tyre place is and how good you are at bargaining, most places up here say about $280 over the phone but if you walk into the shop with the cash in your wallet its a different story.

Anyone bought them in WA? Or anyone on here sell them in WA?

Will be getting some 255/85/16s very soon.

Or - RYANO - if you are reading this - can you ship tyres? and how much (I can fit them myself).

Don't think that is the case anymore, I will check on it tomorrow,

Distributer in Bathurst is Beaurepairs, Guy that owns it is Gareth, Great bloke and easy to deal with.
Got a sat of Buckshot muddies of him about a month ago.

Just goes to show you how much each franchise can vary in their prices. Bob Jane in Geelong quoted me $350 for the same tyre!! Moorey, you're in Ballarat aren't you? For $225 it would be well worth my while taking a quick trip up your way for those rubbers. Even the best quote in Geelong is $289 so you're still $64 cheaper per tyre.

Yes'm Ballarat. but surely if you rang your BJ dealer and say Ballarat (Matthew) does them for Under $230, they'll come to the party....seeing as they get them from the same warehouse. I went for the buckshots at $189, you can't beat that, seeing as they'rs a highway tyre for me, at half the price of BFG's, SST's, MTR's etc.
I'm coming through Geelong in 10 days if you wanted me to bring them up for you, but you don't get them fitted then, and defeats the bargain price, somewhat (unless you fit and balance yourself)
Let me know ;)

Just rang him. $275 is best he can do on the 285/75's :?
Less rubber, more money...WTF!
He says demand and volume makes the 15" cheaper.....I thought EVERYONE was going towards 16's.
Get some s/h 15" rims and the 33 15's...cheaper in the long run...just a suggestion  :?
What you driving? I'm looking at some S/H pedes that come with nissan/toyota rims optional. I won't be able to use. If they're any use to you, theyre yours for the $100 they'll cost me ;)
