gq long range tank

hey guys just looking for some advice, i have a swb gq that i need to put a long range tank in. i have got proces from brown davis, long range autootive and 4wd sytems and they all work out about the same price. my question is which ones should i or shouldnt i buy.

Is there any difference between SWB & LWB tanks???

I have a long ranger 145L and it is great. Can't vouch for the others.

just personal suggestion... make sure what ever tank you get it has the rear corners cut out so if you ever get a body lift you can raise the tank as well with out having to cut it to miss the 45 deg braces

yeah i am actually going to buy a tank that will suit the 2 inch body lift i allready have. any ideas on the quality of the brown davis tanks, anyone got one???

I had one n it was ok never had any probs with it , its now in my dads wagon, Any tank you get ask for a double bottum skin as these tanks cop a hiding beening that bit lowwer, not much extra. Long range auto and 4wd systems will do it for you. There is also Explorer tanks

I've got an LRA that suits bodylift. Doesn't get hit that often as it sits higher than normal. I've had no probelems with the tank other than a bit of initial mucking around with the sender to get the fuel gauge to read correctly.

One of the guys in the club I am in got a tank of Brown Davis a couple of years ago and has had nothing but problems with it. We were doing the fink and it dropped down and had to be tied back up with ratchet strap. Had to get some repairs done in Alice and then when he returned to Melbourne they wouldn't honour the warranty as someone else had done work to it. What else are you supposed to do in the outback? Then they drained the tank to have a look at it, and somehow got water in the fuel so ever 100 kms he had to drain the fuel filter. Then a few months later after his vehicle had been back to Brown Davis, his back let wheel fell off driving down the Mountain Highway. Brown Davis were the last people who had that wheel off also.

I had a 89mdl SWB GQ. I brought a LRA (Lilydale Vic) tank. I wanted it to suit a 50mm BL. One thing they neglect to tell you though. Is that when you order a 147lt tank with the mod for the BL. It's capacity is redueced to 130lts. And I filled it from empty more than once, as I never adjusted the sender properly.
Normal they are just made out of 2mm steel. I had mine made with 3mm for a little extra strength. Think I would ask for 4mm maybe next time. As I have some scratches in mine and a dent.

Overall though. HAve been very happy with the tank. Other than being fiddly to install. It has never had a leak.
I also dont think the sender needs to be modded to install. As it still goes to the bottom of the tank. I would prefer it if the gauge just full for 300km and when empty it was empty. I tried adjusting the arm, as per instruction and it didnt work for me. So want do it next time.

LRA lillydale very good, i have their tank to suit body lift with the 3mm bottom instead of the 2mm. They installed it and did the sender. Have had two Brown Davis before that, never ever again will i get one of there tanks.

Dont think I cut myself. But do remember with out a decent trolley jack it was a pain.
Will be putting one into a ute next time. So that should be heaps easier.
