help with 3b Diesel wanted

Post by bj42turbo »

while back I posted a problem with my 3B engine, it was stalling on steep inclines. Now i have worked out that its only cutting out after been worked hard E.G trying to get through or over a knarly bit whilest offroading. It then only cuts out when i bring my foot off the acelerator and let it idle, then you can watch the OEM oil presure guage drop and then it stalls (low pressure switch kicks in). It has new oil, and new filter.
When driving normal it dosn't seem to do it, the oil pressure guage drops to about the same when idling but dosn't cut out
where off road or on road when i bring the revs up the oil pressure builds up as I believe it should from what I have read

BJ

P.S
I have done a search and spent hours reading posts but i want a fresh set of eyes on my problem as its really shittin me off and i am close to getting rid of the truck.

have you replaced the low oil pressure switch?
have you checked that there is no loss of oil pressure with a mechanical guage?

have you thought about disengaging the low oil pressure switch? (although if you are having low oil pressure at idle your turning off your safety net)..

is the low oil pressure switch grounding out on extreme angles due to a cable pinch?

I changed the oil pressure switch just after i had the turbo installed around 3 years ago but only about 15,000 kms ago.

Havnt check to see what happens if i dissconect the switch whilest its happening, good idea though if onlt to see if it makes an diffence

Oil pressure checked ? no and not really sure how to go about that.

Mine did/does exactly the same thing BJ. I now run my engine at a fast idle when off road or the engines hot.
This stops (or seems to stop)the oil pressure dropping so low and shutting down the engine. Also a heavier oil in summer helps.

Another theory! Is the turbo heating/thinning oil more than than the engine would when n/a ?
Could a different oil pressure switch fix this?
