I had my injectors done recently & was happy with the extra power it gained but noticed a slight "shhhh" noise from the engine that wasn't there before.
As it was running well i took no notice.
After returning from a weekend trip i was about to give the engine a clean when i noticed a oil/diesel ??? stain around the intake manifold, on further inspection i found the manifold gaskit was not installed correctly. :evil:
Considering i crossed a water crossing over the bonnet that day + some mud running with the T/ville lads im not exactly happy about it........probebly some young apprentice just slapped it back together !

ihmm, pretty dodgy.. if nothan went wrong then it looks like u hav been lucky... but u could try demanding a full engine rebuild because of the long term damage it could cause or sumthin... spose it depends on what sorta bloke u are??? u fix it? or take it back to them?

Im not even an apprentice mechanic and id kinda look at it before putting the intake manifold back on and make sure the gasket was put on correctly, take it back and demand a full rebuild by the head mechanic of course.... and then take ur business elsewhere if they dont make the cut?

Slightly different angle here, but if it was going better with less turbo pressure, how bad were the injecters b4??
FWIW i think the good old apprentice is a scape goat most times as the mechanic is supposed to supervise/assist with his work.
There wouldnt be any dirt/water ingress in there as the air would have been escaping under pressure from the turbo.
I would demand a new gasket be fitted, and ask the business owner to send the mechanic out to your place to fit it or flat bed the cruiser at his expense. If there is part of the old gasket missing when it is pulled appart, then ask them to find out where it has gone, by taking the inlet off, and if it is not there, the head.

Not only is it fitted wrong but it looks like they re-used the old Gaskit.
Now if i was doing this on my rig at home i would re-use the gaskit(Damn i just re-used the rover intake manifold gaskit on my engine). But if i was paying a workshop to do the work i would expect them to replace it if they removed it.

Yeah, had to replace the injector nozzles, must of been bad.
Ruff, no one realy changes gaskits these days as iv found out.
My brother had his gear box rebuilt twice by two different workshops & they both used the old gaskits.
BTW- Nick, im not pissed off about it just a little disapointed at the workmanship, makes you think what else was done wrong + though you guys might be interested.

Decideing if you need to change a gaskit or not i guess also depends on where it is.
If its in engine or gearbox, what a pita to go and fix it later.
Its ist exhaust manifold or something easy (depending on vehicle exhaust could be hard) then maybe you dont.
They can be expensive !
Looking through an S15 silvia (200sx) service manual just about all gaskits are gaskit goo, not real.
But going to a GTR say, just the full engine gaskit kit is $800-1200 !!
Never done any real work on my 4wd by myself so not sure what they are like.
Still at the very least a workshop should advise you they wont replace them unless they are actually broken or ask you if you want to pay extra and have them replaced regardless.

The only way that would come about if there was a definate and deliberate failure in result of the workmanship. And even then it would be a legal thing to resolve.
It's great that you picked up on the problem via hearing the noise.
Discounting the noise, and then going on a mud weekend (dare i say) is your fault, not theirs.
If you had acted apon the noise proir to going away for the weekend there would be no case to answer too.
But yes i do agree it is shoddy workmanship.
Not knowing all the circumstances surrounding the fault it is more difficult to point fingers.
The mechanic may had someone in his ear, the phone, any possile thing may have happened. But yes as an Ex-mechanic i agree, it is bad workman ship.
