Very first thing.........check your earths. My XP (only months old) did the
same thing. My problem was an earth lead from the frame to the motor.
(Nothing to do with the winch.)
Almost guaranteed, an earth will be your prob. ;)

One way to get a better earth is to bolt the solenoids to the backing plate.

They are supposed to be ground indepenant but often this helps.

How good is your electrical system? Is your battery ok? How many CCA is it rated for? Is your Alternator working properly?

Had a similar issue, winch (9.5xp) was weak as, slow, then stopped working altogether, but solonoids would click on and off OK, earths etc and power leads, battery all fine.
Turned out motor brushes had corroded and siezed in their holder/sliders, contact gap grew until no contact at all with stator.

Mate of mine has the same trouble with his xd9000, brush assembly is giving him no end of trouble. Nissan also made it really hard for him to get the winch in and out of his bar :D
Cheers,
Dan.

I thought nothing every goes wrong with Warns? ;)
Apparently people think I'm too patronising (that means I treat them like they’re stupid).

nothing ever goes wrong with warns. Stock standard they are very reliable and very strong. That is why most of the winch challenge guys all use warns.
