I have always been intersted in these bushranger/dakar kits - has anyone on the foum built one and what sorts of costs are involved.

Assuming you could buy a kit and import it the cost of the kit alone would be $15,000 plus.
Freight would be scary as you're shipping a bulky item that doesn't weigh much but you will be charged by the cubic capacity of the item.
You could fill a 20' container with akit and that would cost $3-4,000 in shipping.
Then on top of all that you would have Import Tax and GST.
Buy a second hand one and sell you old Rangie.
You will be streets ahead.

The Bushie of Dennis Smiths at Narrabri is still thar. I guess since he couldnt sell it he just gave up. His son now drives it, or at least they still had it seven months ago.

Interesting stuff regarding the Bushie that ran in Australian Safari.
Zuffen, you mention your putting GQ diffs under your Bushie.
I have a Bushie Trayback that I compete in Winch Events eg The Outback Challenge and for this years event we put GU diffs under it and they still fit under the guards with the flexi flares that I run and have been on there for the 6 years I,ve owned the truck. I would be interested to hear how you find the GQ diffs, I'm happy with the GU's as this is the first event I have done without blowing a diff.
We just need to sort out a driveline chatter that it gets when it is not under load.
My advice for anyone wanting to build a Bushie, don't, it would be much easier and cheaper to buy one and there have been a few sale over the last 12 months.

Ring up Jamie Packer, and see if he wants to sell his old mans (Kerry's) old Bushie. Is sitting in a shed on "Elleston", his horse stud at Scone.
Has a british racing green shell, and a thumper supercharged 4.6 in it. I've only seen in once, (near on ten years ago now) and stupidly never took a photo of it.

Please my car is a DAKAR.
I have the GQ's under it using all Rover Arms front and rear with a GQ panhard up front.
I'm also using GQ steering box and steering gear.
The driveline dramas shouldn't effect me as I have a Patrol 5 speed in it.
I think it will be 6 months before mine turns a wheel.
Just for comparison my DAKAR cost over $65,000 in 1994 fully assembled.
Buying one for $20-30,000 sounds a steal.
