when we had the i.6 in the old zook we used a weber from a 2l cortina worked awsome and the 2 stage mechanical secondaries are heaps better than the vac secondaries on most carbs
u can pick 1 up for less than 50 bucks these days

more than likely the steep angles cause the fuel to come out of the bowl breather and splashj down into the carbie, causing it to flood and stall.

you can try and extend the breather with some hose, or lower your float setting in the carby. if you do the later beware that you go to far and then run out of fuel at highway speeds.

If you're considering gas, maybe also consider EFI. Not sure what car to get it from, a Swift with throttle body injection maybe? I am sure it's been done a lot of times before.

Personally I would find that about 50 times better than stuffing around with a carby.
This is not legal advice.

I agree entirely. Got fed up with my carb flooding on steep hills, plugs fouling etc. Looked at Holley offroad carbs but could not get any sensible reply from Holley to my genuine questions so in the end bit the bullet and converted the old girl to efi using a throttle body of a Falcon and Megasquirt diy ecu. Best thing I did. Flatter torque curve, more power and best of all it runs without missing a beat at any angle up, down or sideways.
