Can someone please confirm if TD42 IP comes with height compensator ? How does it works? Injects less diesel at high altitude? Timing is retarded? Where is it located in the pump?
Recently I made a trip at a very hight place and experienced lots of missing. Guess my IP will soon visit a diesel lab, but I want to find out if this device is in my pump.

Cheers...

When my td42 is up high it blows a fair bit of smoke, at normal altitude its fine. So id say they dont have any altitude adjustment. Or mine is shot ?

I'm not a deisel mech but as far as I know they are just a basic mechanical pump that is engine driven, as in constant fuel volume per rpm. Only veriation is an aneroid which is the fuel compinsator fitted on turbo deisels, these look like a diaphram on top of the pump n basicly act as a secondary on a carb, increasing fuel when on booste. The diafram activates a cam and opens part of the pump alowing more fuel flow

That would be a boost compensator.

Do you know of any IP with altitude compensator?

nissan sell a range of high altitude vechiles, i think these come with altitude compensators on them. no idea in the patrols but i did see navaras with them on.

i'll have to check but if its anything like the boost comp they will be just a throttle limiter ie at high altitude it simply limits the throttle so you can't pour in more fuel. boost compenstar works the same way simply limits the throttle acording to boost level. it only allows full throttle when you have full boost.

The only pumps that come out standard with altitude comps are denso pumps fitted to hiluxes and landcruisers.

You should have seen black smoke if your up that high. It works as you described, it has a belows that moves when air pressure gets lower, shifting a rod to alter governor arm position, to cut fuel delivery.
