First 10 spline axle breakage

Post by Aquarangie »

I finally did it, broke my first set of 10 spline axles.

I would weigh this up on the newly fitted 235/85R16 MT/R's and that ARB air locker. The locker and diff center are fine, but the axles twisted off without too much help. Was trying to conquer a nasty hill at Ormeau and almost made it and 'bang' , so it was white knuckling experience getting back ALL the way down to the bottom!!

Broke that one there, but the easy way round, broke the other. I would say I did it when I did the first one, but it was still hanging on by a thread and agrivated it and broke without too much stress.

Anyway, got another set from Vic (every bastard in QLD wants too much for them, cheaper to have them trucked up here!!). See how long this set last :?

Anyway, happhy new year to all.

I ended getting a set from Toorak Tractor company in Victoria as every LR specalist in Queensland wanted way too much, plus one specalist diidn'tr get back to me which really F&^@# me off. A phone call is not hard!! :bad-words: :bad-words:

The older style don't fit my later model Rangie as there is a hub oil seal, unlike the older style which allow diff oil to lubricate the bearings. There also too long for the hubs and the bolts are bigger. I ended up paying, including freight $140 to Brisbane.

Anyway, the ARB locker is going in Dad's Rangie and I'm getting the Maxi-Drive as I use my Rangie off-road quite often than dad does and also running the 32's will fix this small axle problem full stop.

Like I said, my Dad's 88 Rangie has the maxi drive, which was mine from my old 84 Rangie I used to own, is going in the Rangie.

The 24 spline side gears for the ARB air locvker arn't cheap. Youy can get the 24 spline ARB centre for abouit $1170 retail (cheaper if you haggle like I do). Thwe 10 spliner will be okay in dad's Rangie as he only does ocasional off-roading and runs smaller tyres (225/75R16 BFG long trails).
