Lock Rite Lokka in the front now what for the rear????

I have a lock Rite Lokka in the front of my BJ73 Cruiser and now I have to decide what to do with the rear end....I was going to go for an ARB Air Lokka for the rear end but after talking to a couple of mates that have auto Lock Rite Lokka's in both the front and the rear of the 4x4 that they also use as there everyday driver I am not sure what to do....Both my mates with the auto lokka's in front and rear recon that there trucks are just as good on the road as what they ever were and also recon that they are awsome off road....I have only seen one of them perform off road and it is a really capable truck....It is an 80 series and as I said, it has a Lock Rite Lokka in both front and rear.....Has anyone got any suggestions for what I should do.....I dont want to buy one type of lokka for the rear only to be disappointed with it and then wish I had gone the other way and got the other one......PLEASE HELP ME.

Mate,nice rig.
I reckon air locker is the way to go 100%. Less strain on axles and tyres for starters, especially on a daily driver.
Also if you are thinking of ever competing in the near future in events like nissan trials or willowglen, where you only really get one go at obstacles, some spots where tight turns are required and both lockers need to be off just to make the turns.
The only advantage in the other style locker is the price.
I personally smashed a lockrite to pieces when they first came out. Have had air lockers now for 10years and no probs.

for a DD id recomend an air locker, just so it doesnt screetch when cornering like welding or a locka will do. other than that either should do an awsome job. but the lokka will effect the on road handling.
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown

You will notice that both the replies here probably don't match your experience of a Lokka in the front. I take it that yours has no problems unlocking and doesn't impact your turning circle, just like mine was never a problem for same.
ARB being less strain on axles and tyres is a crock.

If it was a competition rig I would go the airlocker and I reckon I could break the Lockrite by being really abusive and spinning wheels, axle breaking type stuff.
If it was a decent off-road toy, save the money and complexity, fit the Lokka yourself and laugh all the way to the bank.

i had a loackrite in the front now hove arb's f& rear.

lockrite:
pro's :

cheap
can fit yourself easily
are on whenever you need them
if fitted correctly dont impact your turning circle (especially in the rear)
unlock when cornering so no screeching of tyres
very simple (no O-rings to go wrong)

con's
you can't turn them off when on slippery side angles
they can click and occasionally pop or bang if you are bit heavy footed on the black top.
they can make it difficult in some off road situations (trying to jump ruts etc.


I reckon 99% of bad experiences with auto unlockers are poor installation, or failure to revise driving style.

if you have the money, ARB air locker, if you dont, then lockrite, its that simple.

I run a auto locker front and ARB rear. My mate runs auto front and rear, I have driven it and didnt like it. You have to be aware it is there all the time. It can be a major pita after a long day at work and having to drive smoothly all the time.

Even the guy who owns it loves it offroad but is now seriously considering going air in the rear. Its a pita for a daily driver.

Definately lock rite rear, as said if installed correctly they are awsome off road, i drive normal with mine in the rear only gotta be weary that it is there when it has been raining, mostly on roundabouts..

If you can handle a little clicking and the occasional bang there is nothing wrong with them, i run a air lokka front and lockrite rear. Have had it the other way and didn't like it.

Thats my opinion but everyones different.
(the money saved for the sake of a little more pressure on axles and tyres in my opinion is worth it it was a $1000 better spent else where on the 4 by)

And it is a daily driver
3.0L turbo diesel, 4" lift, bud's front housing, track assasin cv's, air lokker front + Rear, beadlock'd 37 stickies, high steer, 15.5" travel ranchos, high pinion diff and coils on the rear

Ditto...... this is the exact same setup, air in the front and lockrite in the rear.... I also started with the lockrite in the front and a open then welded in the rear..... the biggest pain was driving in 4WD, next too no steering.

Airlocker front and lockrite in the rear is the way to go.

Aany auto locker it's a little complicated to drive as DD .. you maybe can tolerate as wekkend rig .. just IMOP I never can do it .. just for that reason I swap my both auto locker ( EZ locker sucks .. ) for ARB's and I'm pretty happy ...

buying a lockright or any auto locker as a cost saving measure is a false economy. you will (not might) break stuff as a direct result of having an auto locker, and sooner or later the locker itself will break. I have installed maybe a hundred air lockers and a handful of lockrights, and I will never give any warranty on any part of a diff or driveline that a lockright goes into, especially the single crosspin models. I have never had to provide warranty service for an air locker. lockrights break the crosspin, or the locating pins between the side gears, on snap axles, no matter how well set up they cause damage eventually. save money in the long run with an air locker, and enjoy good on-road manners as a bonus.

Hí there. I use Lockrights in both front & rear of my old FJ60. Talk about been good locker I think so but heres what I find. As a dayley driver they intend to scrub out on left outer eage of the left front tyre. This been from round abouts as the rear locker intends to push it a bite. If you go into a round about in to hight a gear you may find your face up agencet the windscreen as you get a shocking pigrooting action happing. Off road I find. As you decent down a hill if you need to turn you have to finley jabe the brakes or touch the throatle to off set the torge to the lockers. When you decend down a hill with a slight side woods angel on it youle find that the veicile will intend to slid sidways more than one that has free weelling action. All in all you just drive & it's grate. They shaure made my old FJ60 more than capable now.

i run lockrite lokkers front and rear in my hilux and they are great, never had an issue with them
