viscous hub diesel on petrol?????

i have a TB42e and my viscous hub has crapped itself and i am just wondering if there is anyone running a diesel fan and hub assembly on their tb42. The diesel has a totally differnet fan on them from what i can tell so will they draw the same amount of air as the petrols.

Any help would be great

yes i am running a diesel viscous hub on my petrol, i also bought a new fan blades to auit at the same time, i did this wellover 12 months ago, i use this truck in slow comps and its keeping it cool enough, also keeps it cool on the street,

did you go genuine or aftermarket? Also did you play with the amount of silicone oil in it or did you just bolt it on and forget about it

i went aftermarket throught repco when i got mine, i just bolted it on and forgot about it, never really worried about it once i noticed the temp stable and not overheating

Zac, it's fine if you get both the fan and hub assembly off the diesel, it won't work if you try to fit the petrol fan to the diesel viscous hub though as they have different hole pitch diameters from diesel to petrol.
Where the hub bolts to the water pump is the same regardless of engine type.

ps: RB30 hubs are the same fan bolt pitch as the diesel fans, the RB30 fans though are different again to both TD and TB 42's

cool i think you've talked me into it. souds good. is your truck turbo? i have a front mount cooler and larger radiator. Just wanted to compare to finalise my decision.

Zac, it's fine if you get both the fan and hub assembly off the diesel, it won't work if you try to fit the petrol fan to the diesel viscous hub though as they have different hole pitch diameters from diesel to petrol.

Yeah cheers mate. what i really want to know is why the fan ie number of blades and blade pitch is different from petrol to diesel.
Which one do you think would draw more air(unmodified)??

not sure on air flow specs, but if i remember correctly there is one extra blade on the diesel one, i do remember the difference in the pitch, but youd need a test done to find which one flows more

My petrol fan assembly cracked and I removed it...not running any fan at the moment. Thought about the diesel fan to replace the petrol but looks like a no go. Will just get a new petrol fan. Hub is OK.
