Finally back on the road

Post by zuker1500 »

Well after a few minor mods, hehe turbo install the zook is back on the road.
Now has been performance enhanced by a rebuild of the 1500 bottom end and the install of a turbo.
Still yet to finish the tuning but started at 71.2kw at the wheels.
Pics are at http://www.zukernet.com/projectzuk

Went out for the first wheeling adventure the other night but only to break a transfer case mount on the passenger side again.
Anyone got any ideas on how to strengthen that mount?

Might have to solid mount it i think. :)

It goes nicely for a zuk that for sure!

at 70odd kw at the wheels when the 1.3 does 48odd at the flywheel I’d say in comparison it goes like a shower of shit.  :onfire:

I've heard of ppl using two stock mounts but you might be best off putting a bolt all the way thru and using poly bushes (there are a few kits in the US that are like this)

What you will need to be careful of is bending the steel mounts. Then if you beef them up expect to start ripping chunks out of your transfer case housing...

Its the transfer mount on the passenger side.
Its just the rubber mount that keeps on breaking and not the rest of the mount. The actual steel mount has twisted slightly due to the fact that i drove it without the rubber and it kept hitting on the shift lever.

My thoughts are to leave the rubber in there but put a bolt straight through and see what happens. Like some kind of solid mount.

Have fixed the mount for now.

Used a couple of shockie rubbers and a bolt straight through where the mount used to be. It will still have a little flex but wont break as easy.

Now all i am worried about is the mount breaking or the bolts ripping out of the transfer case.

Might have to look at this a little further

I used sierra engine mounts on all three, lifted t case up 20mm also :)
my original one litre mounts were bolt straight thru a rubber bush as standard.

Now thats a pretty good idea.

Did you find it hurting the part that mounts onto the transfer case?
Like ripping the bolts out or anything?

The little mounts are a bit of a fuse .. I have a beefier rubber mount on mt short side arm .. now the rubebr is intact .. but the T/case can hit the floor as the short side arm is badly twisted.
I have also manged to break the long side arm .. all in all with more power you will need to beef up the mounting system as well as the mounts ..

I am pretty sure they reinfoced the shoft side mount at the same time.

My money is on the long side arm bending next :finger:

The long arm on the drivers side is already beefed up and we reinforced the other arm when i reinstalled it.
Hopefully it should be ok
I am going to talk to Sam about it and see how i can beef it up a bit better or use the tasty Overkill complete mount system.

We shall see.
