05-07 hilux to 05-07 US tacoma

Post by ned »

does anyone know if the hilux and american tacoma are the same truck?

my only clue to them having the same suspension is that OME offer a lift kit for the US model, but im unsure if they are same part numbers as a australian kit.

AFAIK No.

The Tacoma is for the F250 size.

CWBYUP, I think i'm gonna have to go ahead and disagreed with you there.... IIRC from '98, the tacoma IS in fact the same as the hilux. The Tundra is more F-truck sized (only seen tundra on tv...) i think.

Compare Tundra http://images.google.com.au/images?gbv= ... ota+tundra
with Tacoma http://images.google.com.au/images?hl=e ... ages&gbv=2.

Please to be corrrecting me if i'm wrong, though.

The 98 on Tacoma and 97-04 Hiluxes are NOT the same. The 3.4 V6 and gearbox/transfer case combo might be the same for the Hilux models that came with the 3.4 V6. The body mount bolts are similar too. Other than that everything is quite different. The 97-04 Hiluxes have more in common with the 89-95 IFS Toyota pickups sold in the US.

The Tundra is a much bigger truck and in a different class than even the new Hiluxes.

Not sure if the latest model Tacomas and Hiluxes have similar parts but I rather doubt it.

This is what I meant but didn't make sense.
