ratios will be fine, (depends on the tyre size)
you currently have 3.7. Petrol (L28) Patrol diffs are 4.6 schweeet
others are (I think, not a patrol guru) 4.1, 4.3. with some transfer gears, your laughing, almost regardless of tyre size.
Well done for not being a sheep and going with the worst diffs ever for a sierra.... hilux
Steve.

Yep they are cast iron.BlueSuzy wrote:cos i wasnt sure, its the diesel diffs, non tubo but. the mounts will be spoa 2 prob 33's im guessin, i can weld good so thats no issue, also the diff caseing looks to be cast iron is it not? um...no good 2 weld, will have to make mounts so they weld on the axle part....
While your at it use the pootrol springs as well.
MQ diffs are a poor candidate for SPOA because of the cast housing. The spring pad is cast into the housing, there is no provision for U-bolts against the diff centre and trying to build the spring pad off the axle will put the mounting width out.BlueSuzy wrote:cos i wasnt sure, its the diesel diffs, non tubo but. the mounts will be spoa 2 prob 33's im guessin, i can weld good so thats no issue, also the diff caseing looks to be cast iron is it not? um...no good 2 weld, will have to make mounts so they weld on the axle part....
If you are a gun welder, preheat well etc you might be able to gat a pad onto the cast housing but Ubolts will be a nightmare.
good luck!
IMHO 33's are way too small to bother running an MQ diff SPOA, but that's just me- that massiv rear diff will be dragging everywhere.

well i actually have 3 diffs 2 use.... sierra wt 1.3 diffs......87 hilux diesel diffs.....and the mq patrol diesel diffs, but need a rear centre......
i want it strong but if i go huge its gonna attract the blue and red disco lights.
Also i was wondering if anyone has had problems with the rear hilux diff as the pumpkin is in the centre not offset...is it a major problem??

no not really, i have bout 5" lift atm on stocker tyres. 2" springs, and i do have large shackles
(double the size made by me) at the moment which limit my front clearance. So i was gonna move the front shackles to the rear which i will have to change the angle the pinion is on also....i have so many ideas lol

? how long ar your shackles, going by your specs, you have five inchs of lift, with 2 inch springs and longer shackles. So to get the extra three inches of lift over your springs, you much have 6 inch over standard shackles

No you dont have 5 inches if that is what you did. To work out lift from the shackle extension, you half the extension you did. So you 3 inch extended shackles only give you 1.5 inches of life

That's probably because the ones with SPOA aren't running 27" tyres more like 33's. Only looks taller due the the gap between the tyre and the guards. Must be a pig to drive with those shackles and standard length 2" springs, shackles would be vertical at best if not leaning in. Go RUF my friend and get a bit of give in the front at least. Shackles although probably the cheapest thing to do are the worst method of lift.
I wasn't trying to pay you out more provide advice. I have 2" shackles on mine with a RUF setup, the longer front springs work very well with the longer shackles but the rear is very stiff due to the shackle angle. I accept that and live with it. I used to have standard length 2" springs on the front and the shackle angle made that stiff as well, it's heaps better to drive now. Tyre size has nothing to do with shackle length but if yours is higher then SPOA my surprised, that's all.
