Spot weld on front axle

Post by teambullet »

Hi all, any of you guys able to help with following question.
On the hilux, i used to rn the same axles all the time and just change the cvs when they broke. I used to have a spot weld on the axle 40mm in from the diff end. This used to stop axle moving around and therefore didnt need inner circlip.
Question is, anyone running a 75 or 75front end that does the same, cause im after the measurement of the spot weld???
Thanks Denny

Surely there is a wear mark on the splines that would indicate how far in the axle has been running in the diff.

yup thats how we did it...

Use a piece of angle and lay it just past the wear line and put a spot weld there and clean it up afterwards.

Or you fill the splines up with greese, slip axle back in till the oil seal and oil seal seat line up, then remove axle, measure the distance that the splines have gone in, clean it all up then weld.

It doesn`t really matter if the axle moves around, its more done to keep the oil seal and the oil seal seat on the axle lined up so it doesn`t all leak.
