internal beadlocks on XL7
internal beadlocks on XL7
Yes yes i know but this is a longterm build up and the XL7 will have everything on it to tour ,work truck, family wagon so i do need to know if the Beadlocks will fit the steelies or alloy rims as i think staun said they will not fit split rims!!

Split rims refer to truck style rims still used on landcruiser 70 series and 100 series standard vans. You don't have split rims.
Stauns can be fitted to steel or alloy rims. We have clubmembers with 2.0 vitara steel rims (same construction as XL-7) with stauns in them.
Alloys are no problem, you just need the right valve stem on the tube.
Speak to Staun- it won't be a problem.

Tim,
They do work but they are not cheap. If I hadn't picked them up for a good price I probably wouldn't have bought them for muddies. I have some swampers that they'll end up with now so it's worked out quite well for me. If you have the $$ though and are experiencing bead issues and want a road legal option then sure get some. The latest version are better and have resolved a couple of issues that the earlier style suffered from.

Who said I was talking about you CJ?

Rob with the white 2L beat you by years
You can't mechanically beadlock a stock GV/XL-7 rims though, so it's not really an option- if you add another set of rims to suit mechanical beadlocks it'll be dearer than a set of Stauns AFAIK.
Steve.

Yes im sure staun would be best to chat to but they are not zook nuts so i thought it best to ask the questions here
So im very happy as i thought the steelies were spit rims!!
No worries on price CJ
I thought i would get the guys to fit them at the factory for me so i know they are fitted right. ( i will have to beg a little!! )
I have a growing list to fit to her im just looking for the right vehicle, have 3 kids now so i need the boot space!!
List sofer ( can get of the shelf )
3 inch lift
snorkel
bullbar
spotties
roof rack
ladder on rear door
Awning
beadlocks
skid plates
still looking for
Cargo barrier
sliders/side steps
im just uming on tyre size as i prefer the jap look ( skinny ) so i was thinking 225/85/16 or 235/85/16 , friend had 245,65,16 but it looked to wide but he did only have 30mm lift .but i will have to see once its in the air
I have been looking for insperation but cant find any real pics of XL7 modified that much.

from a few post i have seen ( CJ ) i thought you could not get lockers! and gears is also one that does my head in ( 5. this and 4.that!! ) and i dont think you can get them off the shelf for XL7!?, i had 225/75/16 on my 2L softop which it slowed but i just fitted a set of extractors and it fixed the problem so i thought that might help the new wagon.
so i thought beadlocks would be good for letting the tyres down to get better traction.

I'd reckon that an XL/7 with 235/85/16's and no lockers or gears will be pretty unmanagable. It's a relativlely long low car to have to hit stuff with momentum.
I'm pretty sure you can lock the front end with an air locker, that alone would help.
cj? (maybe?) is swapping the rear diff to a GV housing to take an air locker possible?
5.12's could go in at the same time, no?
PS if there is no way of doing the transfer gears, definitely get an auto, it will smooth out the gearing inadequacies.

i thought that the XL7 rear diff was different which ment no Lockers and i have to admit i did not think about the front, Auto sounds allright but does this mean i would have to change the front diff to steel as i thought the autos had alloy!!?
a locker would be sweeeeeet!!
i do have to admit the car would be doing 80% road and 20% Off so it would be a little bit of a show pony

Tim,
Which particular XL-7 are you thinking about? As I understand it the manual and the 5spd auto got 4.3 diffs and the 4 spd auto got 5.125's. None of them can take crawler gears BUT you could swap in a 4 spd auto from the GV as that can take the crawler gears.
All the manuals got the steel front diff and the autos got it with the update sometime in '03.
To swap in a rear GV diff you will actually need to swap in the entire axle assy and there are a couple of differences that will need attending to but in theory you could then lock the rear. You will need to deal with the panhard as it is a slightly different length, the handbrake cable ends are different and I think the driveshaft flange is different. The big issue is going to be the load going through the axleshafts that are necked down at the splines. This is where having a full floating axle with decent shafts would be a real plus. As to the front I would think that it should be possible to lock it using a Vit centre considering I have an XL-7 housing in my Vit with 5.12's and an ARB locker. I had heard that there may have been some changes in the later models but I don't know for sure. You would need to check this out.
The XL-7 has a bigger rear wheelwell than the GV which makes it easier to fit bigger rubber. If you are looking at 235/85-16's then you might want to consider a combo of the Calmini lift kit and OME and I think you will need a body lift too.
I know you like your Suzuki's and it will also be a bit of a showcase for you but if you want it really capable I would seriously start thinking about other vehicle options.

Hey CJ
Im shopping for a 2003 april XL7 as they have the old nose and updated dash but i wll put up with new new nose that came out a few months later if the right one comes along
old nose, new dash

im happy with manuel or auto and i would be happy to difflock the front but i would not do the rear
i want it to stand out and you are right it will be my show case so i need most of the parts to be off the shelf and mostly legal
so no body lift for me
The lift kit is of my own supply
The tyres i do want a little bigger and different so i was thinking 225/85/16 or 235/85/16, the pic below is 245s/16 but i cant remember if it is 65 or 75, it drove well on road but it only has a pedders lift of 30mm so the inner plastic guard were removed by the tyres and kept off

and i want it to sit this high

As for other vehicles???? Suzuki is the only brand
and 7seats is a must..
