2003 Disco with Leaking back to back seal (gear box) - help

Post by stinger »

Just wondering if anyone has had any issues with the back to back seals in the D2 Disco? I believe this is between gear box and transfer case. I have a 2003 disco (updated version) with just under 150,000 kms. THis was fixed at 80,000 and again 100,000.

The car is in pieces at Austral Landrover in Brisvegas, and now I have the service people telling me that I can only expect 50,000 life out of this, what a crock........

I have had another landrover servicing mob saying they see this all the time as it is a metal shaft running through aluminmum, alloy wears, seals then a waste of time. They machine it out and place a steal sleave and seal in and no more problems.

I am running out of patience, so has any one else experienced this or heard any thing?
Thanks,
Stinger

Back to back seal

Auto.....forgot that bit. Just got back from Austral. Useless......

Told they see these all the time and yes I will need to replace it every 40-60,000 kms at a cost of $900 a pop. Add that to your servicing cost.

P.S. engine mount 25,000 life no warranty, and I could keep going but I will not vent my frustrations here... Diring a bloody 10 year old volvo until they fix ours, just need the straw hat now.
