The general rule is what we mainly get away with. What is by the book is slightly different. Depending on tyre manufacture, you maybe able to get a certain tyre size in under the max 15mm.cooki_monsta wrote:general rule is most states will take 33" legally
33x12.50R15 generally fit in cos they dont measure 33". But a 255/85R16 and a 285/75R16 measure 33.1" and 33.0" So dont fit.
I just checked to see what the overall dia is using - http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html says that for a 265/70R16 they are 30.6". Thats from info gained from www.carsales.com.au for a 95mdl GQ and 97mdl GU. a 96GQrx 2.8lt had 235/80R16 they measure 30.8" so 33's still dont fit.
But a 95coilcab list as 7.50R16, which I think is close to a 235/85R16 or 31.7". Now this was the info bit I was looking for so It does look like 33's are allowed.
I research so I type.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
The tallest tyre an MQ shorty came with in oz was 7.50R16 and being in NSW, you're only allowed a 15mm increase which means you should be right height-wise with a 32", but most are 11.5" wide which is probably not legal on an MQ.
If you can find a 32" in 10.5 or 9.5 width that would be ok, but apart from that the biggest completely legal tyre is probably 7.50R16.
