Is there a trick to getting the sump off ?
All I can think of is jacking up the engine/chassis so maybe it'll clear the diff ?

Bye, bye Sierra... :'(

When I bought my Sierra it had an anoying oil leak, changed the sump gasket about 5 times!!!
My Method. Jack the fron end up one side at a time at the back front spring perches. Put a car stand on each side on the chassis rail where it starts to rise against the spring perch. I jacked it up untill the front springs had both achieved maximum droop (not terribly far as its both sides at once). Yep then remove the flywheel plate, then undo all 16 bolts or however many of little buggers there are. Then after all of this its still a pain to get out, believe I had to pull it out backward (towards rear end of vehicle), and you gotta watch the oil pickup inside the sump too, it gets caught all the time. I think I pulled it slightly to the LHS of the car then tried to pull it down further. I can't remember clearly, but it was definitly anoying. Sorry to be a PITA, but you wait till you gotta put it back on!
BTW this is for a standard WT Sierra 1.3, with good 'ol sagged leafs, so the diff does sit closer to the sump than some peoples out there might.

Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.
