15" rims 80 Series calipers

Post by UrbanRedneck »

Just wondering if anyone can supply me with a pic or sketch of how much and where to grind 80 series calipers(rears) to get a 15" rim to fit over them
Cheers Damo

I have 15x10's wheels with a 4' rear offset, I spent a few hundred dollars on new rear rotors, backing plates handbrake shoes and so on to change the rear over to the later model, I cut back the rear calipers until they would fit and I ended up throwing the caliper out as it was the most dangerous thing you could ever do. The amount of grinding to get it to fit was absolutely crazy and I personally dont think a vehicle should be on the road with the amount of cutting required. I would question anyones morals to drive a vehicle on public roads with those mods.

Grinding calipers

Post by stinger »

Not certain how much you need to take off for 15x10 rims but for 15x8s I did not need to take much off and certainly no amount that I would consider to be dangerous. I did need to take some more off when I fitted new pads, but in total it would be no more than 5mm or so and that is from the outer edge at the most. I do not have a large amount of clearance between the rim and caliper but it does not quite touch but with some mud on the calipers it polishes paint until I remove the mud.

I have been running this now for nearly 2 years with no ill effects, loss of braking or loss of any brake fluid.

different rims need different amounts, some need next to no griding to fit, some like brian says need way to much to even be concidered.

Jeez mate just ask the question as i have been told that it is not much that needs removing.
Certainly not going to be a tool about it if it looks dangerous having kids in the car and all it certainly wont happen hence why i was asking for pics if available.

Thanx to all replies been quite helpful Guess i will just search for the rims that go closest or maybe flog off the creepys  and go 16" pitty cause they are only 1 trip old ah well

I sure you can change the 16inch brakes and bolt up some from an early model 80 with the 15inch brakes.
