Longer rear shocks for a Vitara
Longer rear shocks for a Vitara
Hi Guys,
I put in a OME lift kit a couple of months ago and am now seriously considering slipping in a 50mm rear diff spacer and 50mm spring spacers. To do that I guess I need 50mm longer shocks.
So what does everybody do? I had thought of gettting some extensions machined, but unless I cut some of the thread off the shocks, they probably need to be about 75mm long which is longer than I want given my plans for the front.
Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Rod,
Just saw your message and this thread. At full suspension drop currently how far off full extention is the shock. It may have an extra 50mm in it. Other then that most companys do heaps of different length shocks, it would just be a matter of getting the right valving. If you talk to a place that actually knows their product they should be able to spec a Procomp or Rancho with the correct length and valves.

Rod, If you want to be cheap in the down time before you get the Ranchos put in VN Commodore rear shocks, get some from a wrecker, they are long and cheap like a Jetstar flightrodw wrote:Hi Guys,

I rememeber a while ago there was talk of using Toyota Cressida shocks, but I cant remember the details. I think Ant used to run them ages ago. Try searching for Cressida in the zook section.

Na Just flex your truck up without shocks take measurements of the open and closed length you want and call 4WD1, and tell them it is for a Vitara. Just make sure you get Adjustables (9000)rodw wrote:Thanks Toecutta. Do you know anything about the Rancho lineup. ie. Which model to get? The 9000's seem to be the way to go but which numbers replace the 000's?
i've just put OME suspension under my 2 door soft top vit.
total lift of about 80mm.
i don't bottom or top out either shocks or struts.
don't go commo, too stiff, just like the rancho's. they are longer to suit bigger 4wd's. you should get some OME shocks.
and what type of 50mm spacer(s) are you going to get?
