Electronic ignition for TB42 - crane or pertronics? Which one is better? What are the differences? Where do I buy one in Sydney?

i sent you a pm and forgot to mention when fitting you'll have to grind down the shaft in your dizzy to exept both of these its only a 2mm lip but its in the way

Crane was what i had, and i will say that i never had any problems at all with the setup. while people are a but worried about the box sits outside the dizzy on the wheel arch (where i had mine) a little time and effort you can seal it up and have air running into it with a positive flow to keep it all cool.
The reason i liked it was the optical pickup. have had the HAL affect ones in previous cars and the are just no where near as good IMHO, and there is no machining to do to get the slotted rotor over the shaft, just put it in, put the optical sensor where the points went, run the wires out the original hole and your set. takes a little to get the sensor right (as you have to test it to make sure its picking up at the right time) but thats about it, once its in, it goes.
Great add on for gas cars as is eliminates the points that cause so many problems. I remember putting a new set of points in, set and go. Would run fine for 5000K's on gas then i would get misses down low, under load the engine would backfire though the carbie and in the mornings it would make it a bit*h to start. if i swapped to petrol, it worked fine on the points, its just Gas is so sensitive. Fitted the Crane Cam Fireball and mate it never missed under load, never spluttered when it was labored down, and in the 4 years it was fitted, never had a backfire though the carbie on gas. to mention that my economy and power was up cause i used a higher capacity coil and slightly wider gap on the plugs, was the best setup i ever had. Now i have a diesel, none of this crap

i had the crane fire ball XR700 but i had to grind down the lip on shaft some patrol dizzy must be different as some people have to grind it off others dont ??
it is priceless to how much better they are than points.

The petronix wont support a high energy (low primary resistance coil) I cant remember crane model specifics but the one to buy is the dearer one as it can run High energy coils HEI its the difference between a points replacement and an ignition system output upgrade.
