Cracked chassis welding??

Post by Fmx_Aus »

G'day all,

Hilux with a crack around the front torque rod mount. Anyone ever had one welded before? Did it or will it hold??

Any places in Brisbane that specialise in this kind of work?? And a rough price on the job if anyone knows??

Thanks a heap in advance.

Cheers ;)

Vertical crack Im presuming? Weld it up then grind it back flush (use plenty of heat for good penetration), then weld in a fishplate over the cracked section and it should be roses.

Most body shops or 4wd workshops should be able to handle it.

Yes, clean it up and get a good welder to do a nice over head weld back through it.

Then make sure the link bolt is tightened at ride height. This is a common problem when people lift hiluxs while they are still running the track rod. If you lift it you must loosen both bolts on this link and re-tighten at ride height. Although it sometimes happens on a stock set up as well.

If you need someone to weld it for you talk to Bubs he could fix this easy ;)
