high flow turbos
was thinking of high flowing the turbo on my 80 series 1HD-T but have heard that the standard turbo provides enough air to the engine. that may be at stock but i would like to run 13psi with an intercooler and when i get it on the dyno i don't want to be disappointed. also is it true that high flowing also helps it to spin up faster getting more boost down low?
80 series, 3" lift, 35" Wranglers, Exhaust, Sliders, Custom Dents.
Hi flowing involves machining out the housing to fit a larger compressor wheel.
dow50r had good results fitting the CT26 front compressor housing off a supra to his 1HDT CT26 rear housing as the ratio is a bit different and gave him better low rpm boost.
Running 13 psi i dont imagine you would run into too much trouble with the stock turbo, however you would be getting to the limit of its efficiency.
If you are wanting big numbers, best to look into the Garret GT series turbos which run roller bearings rather than sleeve and give better offboost performance and less lag. You can pick them up off ebay, but be carefull of copies and dodginess.

also make sure you get the right combo of turbo...
i have selected a gt28rs or the gt30r but the latter being for big boost..
you should look at the gt25r or the gt28rs but speak to someone that knows their stuff such as mtq or garrett themselves, they will need info for your engine to work out a map.
cheers mark

You can producen at much as 20 PSI with factory CT-26 course out of eficience ..
Toyota don't give the chance to have all CT-26 information ( none of variants on Supra or MR2 ) but seems to be easy get 14 PSI from it ..
Mount a boost and Pyro gauges in your rig, and the boost controler of your preference, boost it up to 14 PSI ( intercool it ) and turn the fuel ( if it's necesary ) to reach 1200F max EGT .. and you are done.

Set your boost to 13psi, fit a 3" exhaust including dump pipe, set fuel to suit by someone who knows what they are doing with a dyno, fit a pyro and you wont look back. If you want more then a bb turbo is the way to go, but be prepared to spend some coin, its not a bolt up fit. everything has to be changed.
