Headlight problems

Post by macklux83 »

gday,
I have an 83 hilux, sometimes when your driving along with the low beams and and put on the high beams it will randomly cut out all the light, however it doesn't do it immediately, it might happen 5 minutes down the road or 30 mins later.
however lately it wont even flick the high beams on at times, i have tried over and over and sometimes they will come on and and other times nothing happens.
However if you pull the knob back the high beams work with no problems, it only occurs when it is pushed forward.
If anybody has any idea that would be much appreciated.
cheers
rob

It will be you're headlight/indicater/washer stalk, I just replaced mine that had the same problem, works now fine.

Could be something a little further down the line, when the lights go out, is the highbeam indicator on the dash? If so, you might have an intermittent contact somewhere (perhaps in the column).

I had a similar issue with my 86 4runner, 1/2 hour at an auto sparky fixed the problem.

have the same problem in the GQ . combanation switch contacts would be the first choice .just couldn't be assed to fix it

i had the same problem in my hilux once and it got to the stage i had to drive home at 2am with hazard lights only , and that really sucks on unlit roads , changed the combo switch and problem solved
just a little left of insanity :)
