Post by justinshere »

Hey

Im after some info on 60 series cruisers diffs .
What ratios do they come in, and what yr models are they?
Are all the diffs the same, or is there some that are stronger than others?
Any more info u wanna add, please do so.

So 60s were only made up to 84?
And they are all 4.1s?

all australian market 60's were 4.1, yes. there are some variations in some other markets but they are rare. gears are available for everything from about 3.5 all the way up to 5.7 and there is even the slightly rare 6.3 from toyota stout utes.

4.1 is a good all round ratio, strong enough and cheap to replace if you do bust it, low enough that with good gearbox and transfer ratios it can crawl, high enough to be useful on the highway.

I found that the diff ratio is fine for up to 33" tyres, but it is below average for 35" tyres. That's in my 60 though, I take it this is for a project?

You should be able to buy 4.56 and 4.88 gears for around the $450 mark. These are the ones that I looked into, not sure on the price of other ratios.

Yeah its for a lux, was gunna run gq diffs but after talking to a few people 60s have a stronger centre than a gq. Then add some axles and cvs and they are farkn strong!

4.88 Factory Toyota you will found in Land Cruiser II ( LJ-70 for example ) with 8" axles ..

For 60 axles = 9.5" are only aftermarket available as far as I know ..

Thats 40s but same centre as 60s

I would run 80s front and rear

And if you do go for 60s diffs speek to wyong auto`s at mildon rd Tuggerah they can set them up and there is a 5.something that came standard in a truck

I need to find some 4.3s for a 60s front diff.
I called marks4wd the other day and the only ratios they have are 4.1 or 4.56

Someone point me in the right direction?

Cheers

Precision gears in the US do 5.29 ratios, delivered here for less than you can buy here...you need to use the older 75/60/40 carrier 3rd member
They also do high pinion ones...if you want to do an 80 series/bundy/lux

Try Snake Racing, they list 4.3 on their website.

It's a lot of coin for less than 5% change in ratio.

You could try Marks Adaptors for their transfer case gears (if you are using the LC transfer case). That will give you 8% lower high ratio and something like 40% lower low ratio.

What ratio?

Post by dogbreath_48 »

I've got a HJ75 on 37" claws (36.5"), so my ratios are shot. I'd like to return gearing to standard, or just a tiny bit higher (the car gets lots of highway use, don't want to go any lower than stock). What after market ratios are available? Are any gears much stronger than others? Will they come matched or will i have to get them lapped or something?

You can get 4.56 and 4.88 that would be close to what you are after. If the HJ75 came out with 4.10 ratios and 31" tyres then 4.88 would be perfect. I think Precision Gear has a good name in the US.

Yeah it is alot of coin but i have the big GU rear diff on the way and its 4.375. The 60 is 4.1. I didnt want to go backwards with the GU ratio and get 4.1
BUT sayin that i might have to otherwise ill be wasting alot of coin buyin complete new ratios FnR.
I rang a few places and they dont have listings for a 4.3 for the 60, dunno where snake is getting them from if they are advertising them???
I'll look into it.

Cheers

Is that mainly because you cant get axles to suit?
