Whistling???

Post by Kell »

Does anyone elses Roza whistle while in 4wd? Went out on the weekend and it started whistling in just low range then in high range. Is it normal or is it something else?

Usually its the exhaust manifold...... thats on the right-hand side of the engine (as viewed from the front) sort of under the air filter box. But it can be any bit of the exhaust, like catalytic convertor.....

Try and pinpoint the noise..... that will help you....

It wasn't making the noise when just the hubs were in, only when i engaged the 4wd

But only happening in 4WD would tend to suggest it's not the exhaust too!? :D :?:

Well I think I have worked out what the whistling MAY have been caused by. At the moment I have a busted fan (its not working on the first speed) and then last Friday the air con died. Anyway I rang the car yard straight away (as it is still under warranty) and had the car into them today. Upon inspection (and god only knows why I didn't pick this up) the air con belt has bascially exploded and caused a bit on the condensor to come undone and also shattered the fan in behind the radiator and the black casing around and above the fan (this is techincial and I hope I am explaining it all correctly). If I had a digi camera I would take a pic. This explains why the car is idling weirdly and I hoping it is the reason the car was whistling. Anyway I should have air con back by next Friday when the other parts arrive for now its good ol' windows down

You obviously haven't got power steering then??? Because the same belt does the aircon and power steering on mine and you know when the belts gone as soon as you try to turn at the next corner!

The condensor is in front of the radiator- strange the belt would have affected that? The shroud is the black bit that goes around the radiator fan. ;)

Lucky it's still under warranty as it would be expensive to pay to have all that fixed.

I do have power steering actually and it hasn't affected it. The guy at the car yard is probably telling me shit but I did see the old best and the mess it has made and like you said lucky it is under warranty. Only by about 100 km mind you :) I am a bit worried though by the fact that K Mart will be doing all the mechanics on it next week.

Hmmm..... They must have changed the belt configuration on the later models then?? My aircon belt also does the power steering pump- it fell off once due to the power steering pump pulley being loose.

Wouldn't be too worried about Kmart doing the work- better than the car yard probably as they won't try to take short cuts to save money. Just make sure that they do replace the shroud around the radiator and not just leave it off.

This may be a bit late but also make sure they replace the shroud and not repair it.... I only noticed about 6 months after I bought mine that someone had f@#$%^& up the shroud on mine and it is now allglued together... the top section must've been so badly damaged that they just rivetted a plastic strip to the top of it....

I've got a spare fan and did have a spare shroud up until three weeks ago when I hacked it all up for my 12V thermofan conversion...
