Looking to buy a Vitara Estate
Looking to buy a Vitara Estate
Hey guys, I'm very new to this scene, i'm from Perth, Western Australia.
I'm looking at buying a 1997 Vitara Estate (i think its the JLX), its a 5sp man, 1.6L you guys know all that.
but my main concern really is the factory audio speakers. First thing i wanna do is upgrade, i been looking all over the net for some info on what speakers / sizes come factory with the car, so i can get an idea of what new speaker's to buy. Your help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!!

the speakrs that come standard on the Vitara are pretty pitiful. The original ones in the front are 4" and it has 5" in the back.
In the rear with the help of a spacer you can fit a set of 6x9's (some nibling of hte panal behind needed). I've got a set of kenwood 350w's in there. In the front theres little that can be done about the 4"s as they are moulded into the dashboard.
I'm in the process of having my front door trims re done and when i do i'll add a spacer to allow at least 6" in the doors

No offence but you're on the wrong forumfadidahdal wrote:ahh ok, thanks for that, i hope the previous owner has done some of the work for me, haha. i'm going to go see it tomorrow. speaker's are the first thing i worry about, coz essentially if i dont have good sound in a car its a hopeless car! thanks for you help!!
;)
Yes it is, a Suzuki 4WD forum, not a pimp my Zuk forum. I think thats what was intended by just cruizin's comment. If you want to know about speakers there is also an auto electrical forum on outerlimits, might be usefull if you want to stuff around with changing stereo speaker etc; and a Vitara can be a perfectly fine car with the stereo and speakers completely removed.fadidahdal wrote: wrong forum ? this is a suzuki forum.... i'm after information on a suzuki vehicles specs.... now please think before you post....
Once again, no offence.
Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.
Re: Looking to buy a Vitara Estate
Hence my comment , check out the rest of this forum, not to many of us are that concerned about standard speaker size.fadidahdal wrote:but my main concern really is the factory audio speakers
The only sound you should be that concerned about should be exhaust. (What size woofer is enough to bounce my car over that rock )fadidahdal wrote:coz essentially if i dont have good sound in a car its a hopeless car!

you do realise that you can buy speakers from many stores. Rather than basing your purchase of a vehicle on how good its speakers are, maybe concentrate on the mechanics and condition of the car. If they are good and the speakers aren't just invest in some aftermarket speakers and some neon lighting
Ransom note = demand + collage
While the others are right, it's unlikly you will find good information regarding stereos here. I can tell you a bit.
As others have said, 4" at front mounted in dash, which means you will never get good sound from there...so you will need to make yourself some fibreglass pods and mount some speakers to the door. The advantage of this is that you can choose any size speaker you want. You could put some 8s with 6s with a tweeter if you like.
The rear are 5" I think, again, you could get 5" to replace them with, but you would be better making up some spacers and going the some 6's, or if you don't care about sound quality, get some 6x9s. I mean the rear is only fill anyway, it's up front you want to spend your money.
So in short - if you don't want to play with making your own moulds, your best bet is to go to a shop pick the speakers you want, then see how much they will charge to mount them for you.
Check out www.caraudioaustralia.com forums to learn about car audio/building your own pods. I have looked through there and have found no posts regarding Vitara's that are of any use.
The Vitara's seem to be either a 4x4 (like the people you will find here...and they dont care about the sound) or they are a hairdressors car (also like the people here! mwuahhaa...I can say that - I have a Vitara ) so they wouldn't know how to do their own isntall, so they just pay a shop to do it.
Your cheapest and easiest option is to get some 4s for the front to use as fill, and get something that can do the bass at the rear and make/buy mounts for them. You could get 6x9 mounts for like $20 at supercheap.
Cheers
Chris

Too the pool room for you....fadidahdal wrote:ahh ok, thanks for that, i hope the previous owner has done some of the work for me, haha. i'm going to go see it tomorrow. speaker's are the first thing i worry about, coz essentially if i dont have good sound in a car its a hopeless car! thanks for you help!!
My 07 STi has crap sound.... oh well, I thought it went well but now I realise it's just "a hopeless car"
My Suzuki doesn't have a stereo. I have enough noises to listen to when I'm driving it.
some say he is a man without happy dreams, or that he sees silver linings on clouds and wonders why they are not platinum... all we know, is he's called the stevie.
Sometimes the stereo is good to drown out those "bad noises"....
Doesn't solve a thing - but if you loose less hair getting it home then its not all bad. Unfortunately I have yet to find a stereo bling enough to distract me from those pesky "OMG" dash warning lights.
Perhaps a DVD player is the solution.

( usual disclaimers )
It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.

i have a 94 vitara estate ....
its a 4x4 (when i say 4x4 i mean, i use it)
but i still love my stereo, and alot of the effoprt i put into my car is focused on the stereo ...
having said that tho, i put so much work into it mainly to make it addaptable for the days spent off road and camping (mainly space issues)
...
to answer the original question, rather than argue about wether 4x4's can have good stereos without being a hairdressers car ... id have to say yeah, stocko vitara sound systems are pretty pathetic, 4" in the front and 5" in the back .. mine had 6" 3ways in the back although you could see where the fella before me had got the tin snipps onto it ....
the best thing i have done to my car regarding the sound system is taking the back seats out haha, heaps more room back there and better sound circulation ...
im looking to put 6" door pods in, hence the reason i am on this topic looking for info from people who have done the same
cheers

Wasn't real happy with the sound from the 6x9's i put in the rear side panels. I dont think it has the volume to produce good base like what you get in a sedan with speakers on the rear shelf poking into the boot space. I'd put in a sub 'n' box but with the engle, recovery gear, fishing tackle, bait box, wife, etc i just cant seem to find room
ha ha sound system? i got 6x9s in the tail gate of my vitara.. 5" in front... no room for sub with recovery gear, fridge, camping stuff...etc..
never turn it on, too many other interesting sounds comming from the car to try and work out... and the flooding? 2 inch deep puddle on floor thismorning(lucky there is no carpet), looks like i need the bildge pump
