Triton Gearbox

Post by Mr DJ »

Hi people, my 92 MH Triton (3.0 V6) 5 speed manual is on it's last legs (bearing noises and some ocasional gear crunching) and want to know what 2nd hand gearbox will suit.

What would be the gearbox code I need to look for on the firewall plate??
Will a gearbox from a Pajero of similar age bolt up/same gearing ??
What sort of $$'s would be reasonable to pay for one ??
Would I be better off having mine rebuilt ??

Have searched but have not found what I'm after.

Thanks, Doug.

Howdy Doug
The V5MT1 is the one behind the Pajero with the same motor. Although they are physically stamped ...check for matching numbers first.

Thanks Dave, is it stamped on the gearbox itself or on the firewall plate ?

If it's the gearbox, do you know where bouts it's stamped cause it's got a few years of dried oil and grime on it.

EDIT: Found it on the firewall plate, Thanks.
