I am trying to fit an aftermarket Type-R cheapy 5" taco with shift light onto my zuk.
The shift light has a yellow wire and a red one.
The tacho head unit has a black wire, red wire and green wire. And has another red and a yellow wire (which i assumed hooks up to the shift light?)
I have hooked it up as per the instructions, but she still dont work.
Instructions are:
Red - ingnition (done - hooked up thru cig lighter positive)
Black - earth (done)
Green - negative side of coil (done)
Switch on back of taco set to '4 cyl' - (done)
Got the lights on the thing to work, but the taco dont move...
Has anyone else fitted one, and can tell me where each wire should go?

sure its neg side of coil? or you have it on the correct side?
guessing the shift lite for the yellow to join to the tach or to piggy back onto +'ve side of coil.

Yeah, tried neg, and positive side of coil... to see if there was any strange Zuk magic at work.
But still didnt work.
Is there a electric ignition box somewhere?
the old tacho in the dash is dead - can i piggy back off one of the wires from there?
yellow and red wires from the shift light confused me - they came with a plug pre-fit (male on shift light, female on wire coming from tacho).
I assumed because the plug was already there, that they were meant to fit together... but i could be wrong...

ah ok. given urs is a WT also then dont think there is a box thingy.
those plugs i think should be together. neg side sounds good for connection
so whats left? i am presuming u are trying this with engine running? maybe flick the switch and see if anything happens at all.
think u may have a dud. tried on the rangie at all?

Maybe the yellow has to go direct to the battery, and the red to ignition (kind of like when you fit a CD player)??
Yep, WT, engine running and checked all connections - everything is sweet.
Thought it might have been the green wire, because, even when i de-tach it from the coil, it gives me the same result - absolutely nothing.
I Dunno, got a busy arvo - though it would be an easy morning job!
I have just left it sitting in the car all bolted in... if it doesnt work, at least it can be used as an interior light!

Have you checked the continuity of the wiring on the -ve side of the coil? The same reason the tach isn't working in your dash might be the same reason the new tach isn't working.
I've never seen a factory tach stop working- that's what makes me suspicious.
PS the tach wire is brown with a white trace in the suzuki loom.
Steve.

Hi all - yeah, i checked coil and dash out, and found a burnt/broken connection on the brown wire steve was talking about. Pinch by the looks of it when dash being removed/replaced at some time in its life - i got suspicious when there was only one screw holding the dash cluster in, and it wasnt the original one!
Re-connected the brown wire, and viola - original Tacho working sweet!
But this doesnt explain the aftermarket one not working - multimeter is telling me that there is power going into the tacho - just nothing on the dial. I reckon i mighta got a dud one.
I will contact the supplier and try to get a replacement - will look a but\\it silly with a zook with two tacho's, but its fitted now!
And when lit up, the aftermarket tacho lights up better than the orig interior light!
Thanks everyone for the quick replies.
