Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set

Kinky!

-Scott- wrote:You may get more views if you change the title to something a little more descriptive - like "Engine rebuild costs?"
It may also help if you tell us precisely what the engine is? Toyota (?) buffs might recognise it, but I certainly don't. Sounds like a diesel?
it is a Diesel but i guess you didn't read the title of the vid
it is a HJ60 1983 toyota landcruiser
and i don't want a rebuild just the cost of them items (when i work out how to change the title i will or maybe one of the mods can do it for me)

would like to stay clear of an engine swap as i have just got it.-Scott- wrote:HJ60 only tells me that it's a 60 series. 2H means little more (but I do know 1H.) The 4wd world doesn't revolve around Toyota.RockyF70 wrote:Video title says HJ60.... so 2H Diesel
AFAIK, rebuilding diesels is never cheap. Ever thought about an engine swap?
will do a compression test tomorrow as it may not be rings maybe just needs the head done if not and it is rings i will do them and the bearings and head as it runs fine (no poit doing a complet rebuild if the rest is fine)

At the end of the day shes a 20 yr old oil burner with high km's which cost bugger all to run esp insurance, no loan repayments, etc, etc.
Just service it regulary and dont thrash the
out of it and it will last another 200k without a drama.
If you want a nice TD 4wd, then you will have loan repayments , insurence by the month, exxy parts, etc
I have an old patrol td and a 96 TD pajero. Yeah the paj is nice and goes very well, But for the cost of insurance alone, i could afford to by another old patrol every year.
Work out what you want and then decide if you can afford it comfortably. and still be able to enjoy it on weekends.
I have the worst car in every carpark here in sydney, But when some riceboy laughs at me i just remember the OVERAL cost of the patrol V's there nice shiny bling wheels which already have gutter scrapes on them.
My 2cents but ill give it to ya for free

We obviously dont park at the same places.pongo wrote:I have the worst car in every carpark here in sydney,

Nat, if you are doing rings, you pretty much have to tear the engine down anyway so you may as well throw a rebuild kit at it while you're going to the effort. At the very least get a gasket/seal set.

check ebay they had rebuild kits for around $800
but if it was me i would keep driveing it . the blow by dosent seem that bad. ive done some horrible things to my 2h and it hasnt missed a beat,& its got 400 k on it.
my twin cab hj 60 has 450 k & was only serviced twice a year by the previous owner & still goes strong, but i would recommend oils at 5/7.5 k
just to be sure

oh my little brotherNat84 wrote:so anyone know what the cost of rings and bearings
and how much to get the head done
now i did the rings on the nissan i did big end bearings and VRS kit, Valve seals, for just over 300 bucks, i left the motor in the car and did it all, but that was my 4.2 petrol but seens as ya have the D i asume it be a tad more
now i got all the tooling form when i did mine if you want to borrow it ,
hone, springs compressor, ring compressor
but annes old man spent nearly 7k on rebuilding everything, and he has the 2H motor in it , leave it a while untill it gets really bad, but dont leave to too lo0ng or end up screwing other things on it

you may just have glazed bores.
try a decarboniser first
and then you can get stuff to " deglaze" the bores of a diesel
its worth a shot.

just keep driving it, they all do that when they get a few ks up, its probably got a 100000 more in it.
on a side note a mate of mine had a 2h with 875 000 ks on it, never let a mechanic near it (he was a farmer) just changed the oil, thats it oil and water.
I wouldnt be rushing into a rebuild until it dies
