Hose Lifespan

My cruiser has an AXT Turbo kit on it fitted back in '99 by it's original owner.

The hoses look the same as what they are using now, just not so shiny.

What is the lifespan for this type of hose, and how does it generally fail? My fear is being in the middle of nowhere and blowing a high pressure oil line. Drain line isn't under pressure and will just leak. Coolant lines are a risk for loss of coolant, but provided I catch that in time, the turbo will survive without coolant. Dumping all the oil however would be a less than ideal situation.

I assume the braid adds to strength and longevity as opposed to just cosmetics and abrasion resistance. What about the "teflon lined core"?

lol i was about to post up about how long horses live, but then got confused at what you typed and looked at the title again.

Usually they shouldnt blow, they will just start leaking, mainly around the crimped areas. If youre worried just take a spare and inspect it every now and then. They usually swell too if they arent too healthy.

There are many 20 and even 30 year old engines with original oil lines still intact.
As PJ said, they often swell and go gummy long before they give up.

What about the "teflon lined core"?

the PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene :- teflon) liner will out last any other hose on the market, most are rated up to 300deg C working temp and 3000psi working pressure (the stuff I sell does anyway). With the teflon liner, never ever bend it any further than it sits naturally as it will kink the liner, but will have no visable effect from the outside. I use it for air (truck compresor hose's), brake lines, turbo and general engine oil lines, engine coolant lines, and hydraulic applications and from the work I have done, no come backs.

BUT as with any hose it depends on its lifespan in the particular situation, I know of machines working in extreme conditions that a hose valued at 8k will only last 8hrs, due to the system fluctuations and working environment. In your situation you wont have any probs
