Hot Air

Post by bugden23 »

Hey,

i've recently had the air con re done on the vitara but its still not as cold as it needs to be. I"ve recently added a bullbar and driving lights so there's a good chance its blocking hte air flow. Would adding a better fan to the front make a difference ?

and if not what would

cheers

Got a similar problem. The fan has died, It works well at high way speed, but no good when in low range or in heavy city traffic. GOes into an Air con shop tomorrow to get fixed.

Sometimes, the air it blows seems hot, so I will be asking them to check that the heater is not partly stuck on all the time.

Feel youre heater hoses, if one is hot and the other warm/cold, then youre heater tap is leaking internally.

Get a thermometer, and check the temp of the air coming out the centre vent of the dash, with the AC on full cold, fan speed 2 and recirculating air (this is technically the way to get the coldest air). See what temp it is acutally getting.

Apart from the A/C do you have metallised tinted windows? They help a bit and if you have a cargo barrier in your lwb you could cover it with clear perspex thus reducing the volume of the area you are trying to cool. Although the swb aren't that much shorter the extra area of the lwb does have quite an effect on the A/C.

thanks for the tips,

my vitara does have tinted windows but a cargo barrier will just create more problems for me than it will fix. Does adding an aftermarket fan help at all ??

Mine is fixed. Needed a new Air Con fan which cost around $220 plus a new receiver driver and regas while we were at it. It cost about $500 to get it all done. The air now comes out at 8 degrees acording to the air con guy. They did use an after market fan but only because the old one was not working at all.

Cheers

If the air con has just had a re-gas and all checks out ok then start looking at the heater tap as suggested earlier. It may be partially seized or leaking internally ie; not fully closing therefore letting some hot coolant through.
