For anyone running plasma, could you help me out with a few tips?
1. Has anyone actaully seen a brake heat related failure and can you give details?
2. Do the rope protectors help for heat if used on bottom run?
3. Is it worth going up a size (5/16 up to 3/8) for abrasion resistance as opposed to ultimate strength?
4. Has anyone seen any confirmed UV failures?
5. Masterpull Superline rates their (more expensive) stuff about 60% higher than equivalent plasma. Any comments?
6. Some offer a different type of rope for the first wraps that is more heat resistant. Any comments?
FYI: I used it on my boat trailer where it was exposed to partial sun and had no probs, but moved after 12mths and had to sell the boat. Abrasion was a problem on the gears so it "fluffed" up very quickly, but was still amazingly strong. Sun made it go pale and I used tape on the exposed end. I used it to wrap the spring one day when I smashed a hub and drove home on the other axle. This was 5mm (3/16) rated to 1500kg.
Thanx
Paul

Re: Plasma / Dyeema Longevity
Masterpull Superline rope is much stiffer than plasma and from appearances cannot be spliced. Having said that it is rated higher so perhaps the need to splice wont arise.
Warn - Dont leave home without it
