hi all.
my mate has a 91 80 series diesel with factory part time t-case.2" lift in suspension only, no body lift.
it is popping out of lowrange only and only whilst under deceleration at any given speed.
we cannot work it out and have searched here too and also in the toyota manual but all to no avail.
anyone got any ideas? could it be the worn shaft or shims, detent ball or spring on a shift rail, adjustment of the lever?
cheers mark

You have had a tensioner spring go bye bye.
Mine did this for about 6 months before lunching itself.
Pulled the box down and the shafts the are driven by the selector fork have a spring and ball bearing setup that slot into a groove to facilitate "locked" feel.
Right now that spring is in the transfer case disintegrating and looking at making a $2000 dent in your wallet. Pull it out, pull it down, find it or replace it!
Good luck and problem solved for now.

will do man. we have a bearing kit already as i knew we were ripping it apart.dow50r wrote:Mark...it could also be bearings...if they get wear and slop enough, the movement can shift the fork out of the detent that the spring and ball sit in....so rip it appart, and check out all the bits...quite interesting to work out how to get it all back together
as for getting em back together its easy, done them before.
cheers for the info ill post up what we found.
