options for tow vehicle

Post by zookjedi »

ive currantly got a 4.5ltr gu patrol that i tow my zook with , but i want more power (torque) to make the trips a bit easier
ive got extractors , its an auto , running 35" mtrs with 4.3 gears . and runs on gas
i also use it for camping and obviously 4x4ing

my question is what would be my best option and why to get more pulling power

turbo , supercharge , put in a manuel box . park it and get a v8 as a tow vehicle ?
and no i aint changing the tyres to smaller ones as i got limited room to house on again off again tyres (been there done that )
has anyone on here used a capa supercharger stage 2 ? i know raptor thumpter has had great success with his turbo , but i want a bolt in option , i don't want to be fiddling around with mixtures for a year till i get things right .

cheers Jai

I'd say turbo the gas. Turn off the converter on boost, it's like intercooling without the intercooler.

atm it gets very very warm on the long climbs i believe the radiator has a slight internal blockage , it used to stay below half way a year ago when towing , and its not a viscous hub issue as i rebuilt mine and put another one on and still the same and i have a lock up switch for the converter so im gunna get it rodded soon .
mine tows fine i can sit on around 110-120 on the flat no dramas but i want to be able to accelerate up hills , the better it tows the more i will go out in the zook otherwise it feels like a chore .

If I nail mine up a hill say to keep it sitting on a 100-105kmh towing the hilux it will heat up to 3/4 temp and its reving around 4100rpm.
But haven't had it that long so yet to try it up toowoomba range or up to cruiser.
