Spacers or custom driveshaft?

Post by PJ.zook »

I did a RUF conversion a while ago to my WT, which moved the front diff forward around 2" i think it was. So i fitted a spacer onto the front shaft which was around 1" or less, but you can still see plenty of slip joint spline sticking out, and now i have lots of play in the slipjoint which is gonna fail in near future.
Should i get the shaft rebuilt 2" or so longer, get it rebuilt standard (assumably therefore cheaper to rebuild) and buy another spacer, or find a second hander and buy another spacer?

Jut remember if you bust anything custom, you can't just borrow one to get you home...

how much slip do you see sticking past the boot when sitting on flat ground? did your d/s fall out at all without the spacer? when you did the RUF, did you redrill diff perch to get more ext or you got 2" ext doing just the ruf without touching pin location?
As i think I only have about 35mm ext, and theres about 1" of spline sticking out of the boot at normal resting/ride height...

extending the shaft will mean a lesser angle on the shaft - all be it very minor, a spacer will make the shaft angle greater...

but then spacers are cheap =)
