winch mounting on front cross member

Post by brendan_h »

plan is to reinforce the front cross member chassie bye sleeving it with a mother peice of tube on the inside, then bolt a 6mm steel plate onto it using 4 high tensile bolts and then mounting the winch on the steel flat bar. question is will it be strong enough to hold 3t?

winch is an ebay cheap-o 6000pounder and it weights about 25kg

thanks

i made up a tube bar that bolts onto the chasis ends and around the the front crossmember. my cross member has also been sleeved and it will drag the car up hill on hot ashphelt with all 4 wheels locked up.

PLenty strong enough

You wouldn't happen to have any pics of how you attached the bar around the crossmember?

also when mounting the winch on the plate is it ok so the bolts are bolding back onto the plate or is it best so it bolts the winch down?

I doubt it would matter as I would have thought bolting down would place the most stress on the bolts during winching but thsi is how most winches seem to be designed oldy enough. I mounted mine bolts forward ;)

Here's how I did mine. I reckon its more than strong enough for my 9500LB winch. No reinforcing of the pipe needed.
